The chessboard itself is a masterpiece of design, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal. Unlike traditional chessboards, this automated version is crafted from foamboard, a material chosen for its minimal interference with the electromagnetic field, ease of modeling, and excellent flatness. This choice ensures that the board is not just visually appealing but also conducive to the board's interactive features.

Adorning the foamboard is a chessboard sticker, demarcating the 64 classic black and white squares. Underneath each square lies a hidden technological marvel: a magnetic sensor, or Reed switch, designed to detect the presence of chess pieces. These sensors are crucial for tracking the movement of each piece across the board, a key feature for both game modes.

The challenge of connecting all 64 sensors to the Arduino Nano, given its limited number of pins, is ingeniously resolved using multiplexers. These devices expand the Arduino's capabilities, allowing it to monitor the state of each square on the chessboard. The board also includes interactive elements like arcade buttons and an LCD screen. These components not only allow players to select game modes and keep track of time but also add an immersive element to the game. They provide visual and tactile feedback, enhancing the user experience and bringing the game of chess into the 21st century.

The automated chessboard is a blend of traditional chess and modern technology. Its design is thoughtful and meticulous, ensuring that every move is tracked and every game is an experience. It stands as a testament to the possibilities of blending classic games with new technologies, creating a unique and engaging experience for players of all ages
