Chess, a game steeped in strategy and intellect, has found a new dimension in this project: an automated chessboard, that blends the traditional game with modern technology. This journey began with a desire to step away from digital screens and engage in a more tactile chess experience.

The automated chessboard, a marvel of engineering and design, offers two distinct game modes. The first, Human vs. Human, maintains the classic duel of wits, while the second, Human vs. Computer, introduces an innovative twist with automated movements for the computer's chess pieces. This latter mode is brought to life through a hidden mechanism, creating an illusion of phantom movements across the board.

At the core of this board is an XY table equipped with an electromagnet. The chessboard is strategically positioned above this table. Each chess piece, fitted with a magnet, responds to the movements of the electromagnet beneath it. This intricate setup allows for the dynamic movement of pieces across the board, guided invisibly yet precisely. To further enhance the user experience, the board integrates an LCD screen and arcade buttons. These features not only allow players to select game modes and control timers but also provide real-time updates on game events, adding a layer of interactivity and engagement to the traditional chess experience.

The board's dimensions are carefully chosen to balance aesthetics and functionality, measuring 460mm x 460mm x 100mm. The chess pieces adhere to the Staunton 3 size, ensuring a familiar feel for chess aficionados. From a technical standpoint, the board is a feat of programming, utilizing Arduino C/C++ for its brain and powered by a 12V/2A source for its heart. This automated chessboard is not just a gaming device; it's a bridge between the nostalgic joy of physical chess and the marvels of modern technology, creating a unique platform for both seasoned players and newcomers alike.
