This week we are diving yet again into Blender. For the next few weeks, I will be spending most of my time on my studies- ap exams and all that- so this week's project is going to be simple. In the past week, I created the barrel; this week, I will be creating the crate. Both of these items are similar tests but different in their own way. Crates are, in my opinion, much more versatile than barrels in huge-scale projects. Barrels are outdated in this time period while crates are still used to this day in shipyards, planes, as well as many other places. Though the design might be simple, adding character to it is still as hard as ever. Let's jump into this crate!
Of course, as usual, we must first add the basic shapes of the item we are creating. A crate is simply a detailed box, so let's first add a cube. The style of the box we are creating is not realistic, rather it most closely resembles that of the famous game Donkey Kong in its look. That means that most of the lines won't be straight, this is to give that cartoony vibe that Donkey Kong exudes. Starting with the details, we need the box to be indented on all sides. We can do that by adding enough lines to create mini squares in the boxes and then pushing those squares in. (sorry for the bad photo, the screenshot wasn't working)
Moving on to the finer details, let's explore the steps required to bring our barrel to life. As mentioned earlier, we will begin by subtly curving the lines. This adjustment aims to enhance the overall aesthetics of our design, giving it a more pleasing and organic appearance. To make the inner planks visible, we will employ the same technique utilized to create the indentation on the box. By adjusting the material properties and adjusting lighting, we can achieve the desired effect of showcasing the distinct layers of the barrel's construction. This technique adds depth and realism to our model. Lastly, we will introduce cracks to infuse our creation with character. Cracks are often found on barrels due to wear and tear or the passage of time. By carefully placing and shaping these cracks, we can evoke a sense of history and add a touch of authenticity to our digital masterpiece.
In conclusion, I find myself faced with a simpler project due to my upcoming academic commitments. After successfully crafting a barrel last week, my focus now turns to creating a crate. While these items share similarities, crates offer greater versatility in large-scale projects. Unlike barrels, which are considered outdated, crates remain relevant in shipyards, planes, and various other settings. Despite their seemingly straightforward design, infusing character into crates proves to be a challenging task. However, by carefully implementing details such as indents, curved lines, visible planks, and realistic cracks, we can breathe life and authenticity into our digital creation. Let's embark on this crate-building adventure!
